Tank Net

The Tank Entanglement Net is primarily designed to protect tanks from enemy infantry-carried anti-tank weapons, such as rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) or magnetic anti-tank mines. When these weapons come into contact with the wire mesh, their detonation mechanisms may be triggered prematurely, reducing the threat to the tank.

Structure & Installation:
The Tank Entanglement Net is typically woven from high-strength metal wires, forming a dense mesh structure. These nets are tightly wrapped around the exterior of the tank, providing an additional layer of protection. During installation, it is essential to ensure the wire mesh fits snugly against the tank’s surface to maximize its defensive effectiveness.

Effectiveness & Limitations:
While the Tank Entanglement Net offers a degree of protection, it cannot completely prevent all types of attacks. High-speed, high-kinetic-energy anti-tank weapons may still penetrate the wire mesh. Additionally, the net may slightly reduce the tank’s mobility and speed.

Overall Role in Military Defense:
Both Tank Obstacle Nets and Tank Entanglement Nets play crucial roles in military defense. When combined with other fortifications and tactics, they enhance the survivability and combat effectiveness of tank units. However, their practical application requires careful consideration of battlefield conditions and specific threats.

I. Definition & Function

An Anti-Tank Net is a specialized defensive structure, primarily woven from high-strength, corrosion-resistant wire, designed to physically hinder or delay tank movement and attacks. It can effectively slow down a tank’s advance or even bring it to a complete halt, providing defending forces with valuable time for counterattacks.

II. Design & Variants

Form Classification:
Anti-Tank Wire Nets come in two main forms:

  1. Wave-Type Wire Net – Measures 10m in length, 4m in width, and 40cm in height, suitable for deployment on the ground or in vegetation.
  2. Coil-Type Wire Net – Composed of 10–20 cylindrical wire net rolls stacked together, offering greater stability and defensive capability.

Material Characteristics:
The nets are made from high-strength, corrosion-resistant wire to ensure performance in harsh battlefield conditions. The wire surface may undergo special treatments, such as adding barbs or cutting edges, to increase damage to tanks.

III. Working Principle

The Anti-Tank Net operates based on the movement mechanism of tank tracks. When a tank attempts to cross the net, its tracks become entangled in the wire. As the tank continues moving, the net gradually wraps around the drive sprocket, forcing the tank to stop. This creates an opportunity for friendly anti-tank artillery or tanks to engage the immobilized target.
